A new movie starring and directed by conservative Christian actor Kevin Sorbo has been described as “a fight back to Hollywood,” and is about “redemption and hope.”

Sorbo, perhaps best known for starring in the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, explained that the new film Miracle in East Texas tells the true story of two con men in 1930 who trick widows into investing their money into their oil business. The two men eventually get exposed in their con-work and are given a path to redemption.

“This is a fight back to Hollywood,” Sorbo told the Washington Examiner. “It’s an old-fashioned great wonderful romantic comedy that people actually love. And it has everything we’re missing in the world right now, which is redemption and hope.”

Costarring with Sorbo in the film is John Ratzenberger, known for starring in the sitcom Cheers and voicing numerous characters in Pixar films, including 1995’s Toy Story.

Sorbo acknowledged that the film is more independent than other major Hollywood films and does not have the financial marketing other films benefit from.

“I mean, I say wonderful PG-rated movie, but you know we’re independent movies,” Sorbo said. “We don’t have that $100 million advertising budget that others have.”

Sorbo, like several other actors in recent years, including Dean Cain, has been more vocal about their conservative views, with Sorbo recently releasing a children’s book titled The Test of Lionhood. The book, which details the journey of a lion cub who braves a daring journey to save his sister, is meant to inspire boys to stand tall and be brave men in the face of challenges, the actor explained.

Earlier this month, Sorbo and his wife, Sam, were discussing the new movie in an interview, during which he lamented all of the “anger and the hate” currently in the world. He specifically took issue with people choosing to side with the terrorist group Hamas, which attacked Israel earlier this month.

“It’s really unbelievable,” Sorbo said. “To sit there and watch people here in America take the side of Hamas and cheer and go up and down the streets and say we’re not supposed to retaliate in any way. Are people in this country beheading babies? I don’t think so. I mean, it’s sick, the world we’re living in.”

The film opened in theaters Oct. 29.
