Wednesday’s Republican debate, the fourth chance voters had to hear from the candidates trying to gain ground on party front-runner former President Donald Trump, brought in the lowest numbers so far this year.
The event, hosted by cable network Nexstar Broadcasting, brought in 4.1 million households, almost 1.6 million of whom watched the debate on NewsNation, while over 2.5 million watched on the CW Network. That is compared to 7.5 million viewers who tuned in to the third debate, which aired on NBC. The first and second debates, which aired on Fox News and Fox Business, brought in 12.8 million and 9.5 million viewers, respectively.

The numbers this week were also lower than the debate between Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and Ron DeSantis (R-FL), which aired on Fox News on Nov. 30, which drew in 4.75 million viewers.
Still, NewsNation, which was created in 2021, says it’s satisfied with the results.
“NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night’s debate, and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned-in and watched,” said Sean Compton, president of networks for Nexstar Media. “This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We’re very proud of the NewsNation team, the great job done by the moderators, and the overall production. In the end, the real winners last night were the nation’s voters.”
Beyond being aired on cable, the Republican debate was also available to watch online for free via Rumble, an alternative to YouTube. The other Republican debates were also available to watch live on Rumble.
