The Trump administration unveiled a new proposal for expanding offshore oil and gas drilling Thursday, which would result in a significant shift in U.S. energy policy.

The U.S. Department of the Interior outlines a five-year plan starting in 2026 to open up to 34 lease sales for energy production. The leases include approximately 1.27 billion acres of U.S. waters, including areas in the Gulf of America, Alaska, and California, as well as potentially the Atlantic and Eastern Gulf.
