Lindsey Graham tells Biden admin to focus on country instead of Donald Trump’s rhetoric

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said President Joe Biden should focus on the needs of the country instead of the rhetoric of former President Donald Trump after Biden’s campaign likened Trump’s recent comments on immigration to the rhetoric of Adolf Hitler.

In a conversation with NBC’s Kristen Welker on Meet the Press, Graham said Biden has sat on the sidelines and allowed the country to be “invaded.” When pressed on whether he approved of Trump’s rhetoric, Graham said, “I could care less what language people use as long as we get it right.”

The interview centered on comments Trump made in New Hampshire Saturday.

“They’re poisoning the blood of our country. That’s what they’ve done. They’ve poisoned mental institutions and prisons all over the world. Not just in South America … but all over the world,” Trump said at a rally.

“They’re coming into our country from Africa, from Asia, all over the world. They’re pouring into our country. Nobody is even looking at them. They just come in. The crime is going to be tremendous,” Trump said.

The Biden campaign was quoted comparing Trump’s comments to the rhetoric used by Hitler.

“Donald Trump channeled his role models as he parroted Adolf Hitler, praised Kim Jong Un, and quoted Vladimir Putin while running for president on a promise to rule as a dictator and threaten American democracy,” said Ammar Moussa, Biden-Harris 2024 campaign spokesperson, according to CNBC.

When asked to comment on the remarks Sunday, Graham immediately said Americans are worried about the effects of the current situation at the United States border with Mexico.

“They’re worried about fentanyl coming over and killing their kids,” he said. He then turned the conversation to the Biden administration.

“To the Biden administration, you’re talking about Donald Trump’s language as you set on the sidelines and allowed the country to be invaded. One hundred seventy two people on the terrorist watch [list] have come on your watch. Fentanyl is killing more Americans than anytime in history.”

Welker then pressed the congressman on the language Trump used.

Graham replied, “You know, we’re talking about language – I could care less what language people use as long as we get it right… If you’re talking about the language Trump uses rather than trying to fix it, that’s a losing strategy for the Biden administration.”
