Robert Card, the suspect in the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, has reportedly been found dead.

Card, 40, was the suspect in the fatal shooting of 18 people at a recreation center and bar on Wednesday. CNN referenced law enforcement sources saying that Card’s body was discovered with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Sen. Angus King (I-ME) also confirmed to the Bangor Daily News that Card was dead, editor Michael Shepherd posted on X.

Card was reportedly found dead in Lisbon near a recycling center where he used to work in the same clothes he had on during the two shootings on Wednesday. The shooting suspect’s vehicle had been found abandoned in Lisbon, and Mike Sauschuck, the commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety, said on Friday they would be sending “divers in the water” near the location where the car was located.

Shortly after Friday’s press conference, CNN reported that Card had legally purchased the weapon he is alleged to have used in the mass shooting shortly prior to being hospitalized for mental health reasons over the summer. The report cited multiple law enforcement sources.
