Majority call border crisis a ‘catastrophe,’ blame Biden and Democrats

Voters are pulling no punches when it comes to their view of the escalating national security and humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, blaming President Joe Biden and Democrats for the disaster.

And they are eager for Republicans to take charge of immigration and border security.

Just days after Biden clashed with his Homeland Security chief and said the border isn’t secure, a new Rasmussen Reports survey shared Monday morning with Secrets said most likely voters blame the president for the disaster.

When asked if Biden, from his first day in office, has “worked to systematically undermine America’s border security,” 58% agreed, while 37% didn’t. On that question, 42% of Democrats agreed that the result of Biden’s failure has been a “humanitarian and national security catastrophe.”

What’s more, by a 50%-38% margin, voters said they trust Republicans more than Democrats on border policy.

The poll is the latest to show that immigration now rivals the economy as the top problem in the minds of voters.

Worse, they see Biden as the cause of the crisis. Just 11% rate Biden’s “handling” of immigration matters as excellent. Some 68% rate it as fair to poor, with the majority polled, 52%, rating it as poor.

Just like in 2016, former President Donald Trump is making immigration a top point in his rematch with Biden. Polls have shown that most voters believe the border was more secure under Trump, who promised to build a complete border wall, deport millions of illegal immigrants, and turn away any caught at the border.

But Biden reversed most of Trump’s policies, leading to millions more illegal immigrants in the United States. The situation in Texas has been so bad that the governor has a policy of busing illegal immigrants to “sanctuary cities” such as New York, Chicago, and Washington. Mayors in those cities have hit Biden because the crisis is overwhelming their governments.
