Most Republican voters are rooting for the next speaker of the House to be loyal to former President Donald Trump.
A recent CBS News/YouGov poll found that 59% of self-reported Republican respondents want the speaker to demonstrate loyalty to Trump. Another 49% hoped the leader of the House would be a part of the MAGA movement, in reference to Trump’s campaign slogan: “Make America Great Again.”

Still, 58% of Republican respondents preferred a speaker who could work with Democrats. Overall, 71% of respondents said the same.
Another concern for those surveyed was that federal spending is cut, with 64% reporting it as a wanted characteristic. Of those surveyed, 51% contrasted with Republican-only respondents in wanting the speaker to stand up to the MAGA faction. Almost a fifth of total respondents did not know what was meant by “MAGA Republicans.”
Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) ousting split respondents, with a quarter reporting it as good for the country and 23% saying it was bad. The majority, 51%, believed there would be no change to the state of the country.
