A man grabbed a microphone from the hands of climate change activist Greta Thunberg on Sunday after she invited women from Afghanistan and Gaza to take the stage at her protest in Amsterdam.

The man, who has not been identified, claimed he did not attend her event to hear about “politics” and was looking for a climate demonstration. Thunberg attempted to grab the microphone back, and told the man to “calm down,” according to footage of the scene that was shared to social media.

“I have come here for a climate demonstration, not a political view,” the man said before he was booed and escorted off the stage. Thunberg joined the crowd in shouting, “no climate justice on occupied land,” as the man was escorted away.

The altercation took place after the women addressed the crowd. Although the man has not been identified, the Afghan woman was identified as Sahar Shirzad, and the Palestinian woman was identified as Sara Rachdan.

“As a climate justice movement, we have to listen to the voices of those who are being oppressed and those who are fighting for freedom and for justice,” Thunberg said at the protest. “Otherwise, there can be no climate justice without international solidarity.”

Thunberg has also shared her solidarity with the Palestinians in social media posts. The protest comes just over one month after the terrorist organization Hamas launched an unexpected attack on Israel on Oct. 7, which resulted in over a thousand deaths.

The protest also comes as a series of large pro-Palestinian demonstrations break out in the United States and France. Thousands have gathered in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Austin, Texas, to call for an end to the hostilities. It also comes ahead of a large pro-Israel march in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

President Joe Biden and the majority of U.S. officials have shown support for Israel’s right to defend itself after the terrorist attack last month but have also pushed for a humanitarian pause to give aid to people in Gaza.
