Manchin praises Biden’s record on the one thing Democrats don’t want to talk about – Washington Examiner

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) offered President Joe Biden rare praise in an op-ed on Monday, but it was on a topic that Democrats have steered away from touting out of fear it would divide the voter base.

Manchin claimed that Biden should be proud of the “record-breaking” energy production that is happening in the country, including the production of oil, gas, and renewable energy.

“I’m going to do something you probably haven’t heard me do much in the past three years: I want to congratulate President Biden for the record-breaking energy production we are seeing in America today,” Manchin wrote in a Washington Post op-ed. “Our country has never been more energy-independent than we are today. This is something to celebrate.”

The senator went on to credit the country’s energy successes on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act but claimed the administration would not be touting these successes on the campaign trail, or to media outlets, out of fear it would anger environmentalists.

“It seems some of the president’s radical advisers in the White House are so worried about angering climate activists that they refuse to speak up about these accomplishments,” Manchin wrote. “The result is that a president who was elected as a centrist is being dragged further and further to the left.”

The topic of energy has become a controversial one, with members of the far left urging the administration to lower energy production in the U.S. However, Biden has been criticized by Republicans for not doing enough to promote oil and gas.

Manchin, who will depart the Senate in January, helped secure the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2021 and has largely stood by the legislation, but he has also accused the administration of trying to manipulate it and trying to use the funds too broadly.
