A Frederick County, Maryland, parent is pushing for an international school walkout on Thursday.
“Join parents across the United States, Canada, the UK, and globally to send a message that parents’ rights are civil rights by keeping their children out of school on September 14,” Tom Neumark wrote in a post on social media.

He calls for an “Unteach” movement of parents to send a message that “parents are the primary educators of their children and should be respected.”
Neumark encourages parents to participate in activities that “qualify” as an excused absence, such as a vacation day.
The leader of this walkout push established the Frederick Classical Charter School in Maryland and has been a vocal opponent of “Policy 443” in Frederick County Public Schools. The policy describes transgender and gender nonconforming students as a protected class, meaning school staff do not have to disclose to parents their child’s gender status, transition, or use of a different name or pronoun.
In addition, the policy allows any student to access bathrooms and locker rooms corresponding with their preferred gender. A transgender student may also participate on sports teams according to their gender identity.

Neumark told WMAL on Wednesday that parents oppose the “secret gender transitions” at schools.
His parental rights movement in Maryland is part of a growing trend in the Washington, D.C., suburbs, including Virginia’s Loudoun and Fairfax counties, that seeks to fight the growing gender identity policies in public schools.
