Matthew Whitaker decries Hunter Biden’s Capitol appearance as ‘political theater’

Former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker decried Hunter Biden’s Wednesday appearance on Capitol Hill as “political theater at its best.”

“Perfectly scripted from the Hunter Biden team to make their points, to score, you know, as many points as they possibly can, and then to ultimately walk away … so the American people will sort of see him speaking at the Capitol without the liability or risk that it would otherwise involve,” Whitaker told Martha MacCallum of Fox News.

Hunter Biden spoke on the Senate side of the Capitol, dodging his scheduled deposition with the House Oversight Committee, and railed against what he called an illegitimate investigation into his family as an effort to undermine the administration of his father, President Joe Biden.

How the situation plays out from here will show the nation whether or not a two-tiered system of justice exists within the country, Whitaker said.

“I think that, you know, in the documents case, Joe Biden got a walk,” Whitaker said. “[Former] President [Donald] Trump continues to fight through that, but, you know, we had people like Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon that were indicted by DOJ for ignoring a congressional subpoena. Now that Hunter Biden has done it, we’ll see whether [Attorney General] Merrick Garland is willing to do it.”

Wednesday’s political theater by Hunter Biden’s team was the result of simple calculation, according to Whitaker.

“He’s already facing six felony charges for guns and taxes,” Whitaker said. “He’s got about, you know, six misdemeanor charges, as well, on the tax case. So, one more misdemeanor for ignoring a congressional subpoena, I think they were willing to risk that legally because he’s in real hot water with those other cases.”
