McDonald’s serves up nonpartisan response to Trump visit: ‘We are golden’ – Washington Examiner

McDonald’s dished out some de-escalating rhetoric after former President Donald Trump served up fries at one of the company’s Pennsylvania locations over the weekend.

When Trump donned an apron to work a shift at the Golden Arches on Sunday, he sparked an exuberant response from Republicans and laments from Democrats. But the world’s largest fast-food chain stayed above the fray in an internal email obtained by the Associated Press.

“McDonald’s does not endorse candidates for elected office and that remains true in this race for the next president. We are not red or blue — we are golden,” the company declared.

McDonald’s wrote that “upon learning of the former president’s request, we approached it through the lens of one of our core values: we open our doors to everyone.”

The former president’s move to work the drive-thru at the Golden Arches marked an effort to “roast Kamala for her disgusting McLies” and troll Vice President Kamala Harris’s claim that she worked at the company as a young college student, per his campaign.

“I’ve now worked for 15 minutes more than Kamala at McDonald’s,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. His campaign has said without evidence that her claim is a lie, while the Harris campaign has not offered proof to back up claims the vice president worked at the franchise.

McDonald’s has not released confirmation that Harris held a position with the company, and a franchisee said recently he doubted it would release any verification of its own accord.

“I do not think McDonald’s has any desire sorting through any type of files to find out if this is true,” the franchisee told Newsweek as he reflected on Harris’s possible job at McDonald’s. “Personally speaking, I don’t believe I have any records prior to seven years. That’s just not something that we keep.”

McDonald’s has declined to dispute Harris’s claims, instead choosing to celebrate both the vice president and Trump for praising the company.

“Though we are not a political brand, we’ve been proud to hear former President Trump’s love for McDonald’s and Vice President Harris’s fond memories working under the Arches,” executives from the Golden Arches said in a statement on Sunday.
