Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is under investigation for allegedly accepting expensive tickets to a Formula 1 race in Miami and to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Florida Commission on Ethics is investigating a complaint from activist Thomas Kennedy, who says he had questions about the mayor’s pricey tickets, according to the Miami Herald.

The complaint by Kennedy alleges that Suarez violated Florida law by not disclosing the tickets as gifts. State law requires that gifts valued over $100 must be disclosed and prevents elected officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists, vendors of the city, or the elected official’s employer.
“It’s good to see the Florida Ethics Commission taking this matter seriously as residents deserve clear and objective answers,” Kennedy told the outlet. “It’s become clear they won’t get them from the mayor or his administration.”
The complaint alleges that Suarez did not disclose gifted access to the Paddock Club, an expensive viewing suite for the Formula 1 race in Miami, or his travel to the World Cup in Qatar last year, where he was seen in a luxury box with former soccer star David Beckham, per the report.

Suarez had a short-lived presidential campaign, announcing his long-shot bid for the White House in June and dropping out in August after he failed to qualify for the first Republican presidential debate.
He has served as the mayor of Miami since 2017. He was overwhelmingly elected in 2017 and again in 2021.
