Mike Johnson to affirm US as ‘beacon of liberty’ during first international speech

Newly appointed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson will describe the United States as a “beacon of liberty” after the weeks-long conflict over who shall lead the House of Representatives.

On Monday, Johnson will deliver his first international remarks – virtually – to an audience at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship’s inaugural conference in London on Monday. In prepared remarks shared with the Washington Examiner, he will express his eagerness to serve as Speaker and argue that Congress and the United States “has re-emerged now as a beacon of liberty for the world” after the debates over the speakership.

Johnson will praise ARC for its role in “pushing back on the failed visions that currently plague the West,” including questions of how to govern, how to restore faith in institutions, how to strengthen the family, and how to improve human flourishing across the globe.

The House Speaker will note the “crisis of identity” in the United States with regard to the political divide between parties on moral matters as well as growing tensions around the world involving Hamas, Taiwan, and Ukraine. He will urge attendees to “challenge our existing paradigms and chart a new path forward.”
