Mike Lawler calls Tlaib a ‘disgusting person’ who ‘has no business serving in Congress’

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) issued a harsh condemnation of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for her stance on comments about Israel.

In an appearance on Fox News, Lawler took aim at Tlaib’s refusal to retract her claim that Israel bombed the Christian Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza despite a United States intelligence assessment and footage appearing to show Israel was not responsible for the explosion. The New York Republican suggested she didn’t belong in Congress after her remarks made outside the Capitol to protesters calling for a ceasefire.

“They are a disgraceful bunch,” Lawler said. “The fact that Rashida Tlaib stood outside yesterday in this rally saying and repeating this vile, disgusting lie, that Israel bombed the hospital, and offering no remorse despite the fact that the administration said it was a lie, shows what a disgusting person she is. She has no business serving in the House of Representatives. She showed more anger and upset at a lie than she did for the fact that you had 40 babies slaughtered, refusing to comment when Fox News asked her for comment about it. She has no business serving in the House of Representatives. It’s disgraceful.”

“These folks have promulgated this lie that Israel is the oppressor in Gaza,” he added. “Meanwhile, the real oppressor is Hamas, a terrorist organization that uses civilians indiscriminately as shields to try to protect themselves. They need to be eliminated, period. The fact that we have sympathizers as members of Congress is so unbecoming and so horrifying.”

Tlaib was quick to condemn Israel for Tuesday’s explosion, even taking aim at President Joe Biden for his support of Israel.

“Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that,” Tlaib said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, within a few hours of the blast. “[President Biden] this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help de-escalate. Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslim Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.”

While fellow liberal “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) walked back her similar comment following news that Israel likely wasn’t behind the explosion, Tlaib repeated her comments on Wednesday, speaking at a rally outside the Capitol.

“People think it’s OK to bomb a hospital where children, you know — what’s so hard sometimes is watching those videos and the people telling the kids, ‘Don’t cry.’ And, like, let them cry!” Tlaib shouted at a rally on Wednesday. “If we’re not crying, something is wrong! And so I’m telling you right now, President Biden, not all of America’s with you on this one. And you need to wake up and understand that! We are literally watching people commit genocide and killing a vast majority just like this.”
