A former professional MMA fighter in Florida turned the tables on a would-be knife-wielding criminal after he slammed the man and choked him out.
Javier Baez, a retired pro with eight fights, was in the parking lot of his Miami apartment complex on Nov. 1 when a knife-wielding man confronted him and attempted to stab him, according to a report.

“Guy was out there screaming on the phone, literally was fighting for a while with some woman,” Baez said.
“He tapped on my door window. I told him to leave me alone, and then he came at me with a knife. I told him to leave me alone. I’m calling the cops. I hope he doesn’t break my window. That’s all I cared about.”
Footage captured the moment at about 4 a.m. when the man charged Baez with a 14-inch knife.
Blocking the attempt, Baez picked the man up and slammed him into the ground before sinking in a choke.
“He got a knife and came running at me. Well, the rest is on video,” according to Baez. “Second nature … When you practice every day, you don’t think about it. Put his belly to the floor, put my knee in his back, and called the cops.”

“Once I started putting the choke in, he kind of just let [the knife] go,” he added, “because nobody’s worried about anything else but breathing when you’re losing air.”
A suspect, 50-year-old Omar Marrero, was taken into custody and is facing charges of burglary, assault or battery, and aggravated battery.
