Mom Of Minneapolis Shooting Victim Was Working In ICU When Daughter Was Wounded

A mother of a 12-year-old girl who was injured during a Wednesday shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis was working in the intensive care unit before realizing her daughter’s school had been impacted by the incident, according to a fundraiser.

The mother of Sophia Forchas was working Wednesday at Hennepin Healthcare “before knowing it was her children’s school that was attacked, and that her daughter was critically injured,” according to a GoFundMe fundraiser on the family’s behalf. Forchas’ mother works at the hospital as a pediatric critical care nurse, the institution confirmed to People.

The GoFundMe said Forchas was shot and critically injured during the incident. The friar for St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church confirmed that the girl was critically injured and in the hospital, according to a Facebook post.

She had surgery and remains in the ICU while her younger brother Anthony was also inside the school during the shooting but was unharmed, according to the fundraiser. The page has raised over $300,000 as of the time of writing.

Police responded to a shooting just prior to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Church and Catholic School in Minneapolis, FOX9 reported. The gunman carried a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol and is believed to have fired all three weapons during the incident, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. A total of 20 victims were injured, with an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old being killed. (RELATED: Police Chief Reveals Details On Catholic School Shooter’s Weapons)

15 more children from the ages of 6 to 15 suffered injuries and three adults in their 80s were hit, authorities said.

The shooter has been identified as Robin Westman, a transgender male born Robert Westman, the New York Post reported. Westman allegedly posted videos online ahead of the shooting showing the phrases “kill Donald Trump” and “for the children” written on gun magazines. Westman also flipped through a handwritten manifesto in footage, O’Hara said.

Westman confessed he was “tired of being trans” and wished he “never brain-washed” himself, according to a translation of his manifesto by the Post. Westman legally changed his name to Robin in 2019 with his mother signing off, court records revealed. His mother previously worked for the school.
