MTG blasts House Republicans who voted to table Tlaib censure motion

November 02, 2023 08:51 AM

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blasted House Republicans who failed to vote for her resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

Last week, Greene introduced a resolution to censure Tlaib over her comments blaming Israel for a deadly blast at a Christian hospital in Gaza, alleged antisemitism, and “leading an insurrection” at the United States Capitol, referring to an incident in which over 100 pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested after holding a protest inside Capitol grounds.

After the resolution failed to garner enough votes, Greene took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to blast her Republican colleagues for their lack of support.

“List of feckless Republicans that voted WITH Democrats to table my censure resolution against Rashida Tlaib. This is why Republicans NEVER do anything to stop the communists Democrats (sic) or ever hold anyone accountable!!” Greene said. “PATHETIC.”

Twenty-three House Republicans voted to table the resolution on Wednesday. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), one of the 23 Republicans, defended his vote and called the resolution “deeply flawed.”

While he agreed that Tlaib “has repeatedly made outrageous remarks toward Israel and the Jewish people … unbecoming of a member of Congress,” he called Greene’s resolution “feckless … deeply flawed and made legally and factually unverified claims.”

Roy said he voted to table the resolution largely because the term “insurrection” should not be abused, referring to what he saw as an abuse of the term by Democrats to describe the Jan. 6 riot.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Tlaib for comment.
