Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) blasted the Democrats’ electric vehicle agenda on Thursday, saying it was “traitorous” to auto unions as workers inch closer to a strike deadline.
Greene offered words of support for HR 1435, the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act, on the House floor on Thursday. She has repeatedly attacked the Biden administration‘s efforts to reach its goal of having 50% of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030.

“Forcing drivers to buy electric vehicles to fulfill the Democrats’ Green New Deal climate cult agenda is traitorous to auto workers, traitorous to auto unions, and traitorous to every American auto consumer,” Greene said.

Her remarks come as the United Auto Workers union prepares to strike while they engage in contract negotiations with Detroit’s three automakers. UAW is demanding a 36% boost in pay and the automakers — General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis — have countered with offers that are roughly half of that increase.

The potential strike will be a test of Biden’s assertion that he is the most pro-union president in U.S. history, as well as offer a projection as to who the unions will endorse in 2024. UAW endorsed Biden in 2020, but President Shawn Fain said the union was withholding its endorsement until the president addresses certain concerns, including the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles.
Fain said it is still possible that all 146,000 UAW members could walk out, but the union will begin by striking at a limited number of plants. The final decision will not be announced until 10 p.m. EDT.
