Nancy Mace feuds with The View hosts over abortion

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) got into a heated debate over the subject of abortion during an appearance on The View on Monday.

When asked about how the Republican Party should address the subject of abortion, Mace said the party “cannot demonize women” and that women should not have to be forced into a decision on whether or not to have an abortion. The congresswoman added that the party needs to find a balance between its anti-abortion messaging while also supporting women.

“But what I have found is that neither side wants to find the middle ground,” Mace said. “The Left doesn’t want to tell you what their limits are. The Right has, it’s zero and no exceptions. That is not where the vast majority of Americans are. They want to be compassionate to women and girls.”

Later in her discussion, she also mentioned how some states, including California, allow abortions up to nine months, to which Whoopi Goldberg, one of the co-hosts of the show, claimed that “no one will take a baby at nine months.” Mace and Goldberg continued to argue with each other, leading to Goldberg asking “why isn’t it my choice” if her 12-year-old daughter had to choose whether or not to get an abortion.

“I understand your choice,” Goldberg said. “I understand your choice. I also am pro-life. I want everybody to have a safe life. I want them to be safe and do all the things that they should be able to do, but when it comes to what is best for my family and I, why isn’t that my choice and my doctor’s choice without bringing anyone else in?”

Earlier this year, Mace was criticized by Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison, who claimed that her moderate posture on the subject of abortion is just for show. Harrison argued that Mace would appear on television and “say one thing,” then proceed to vote “another way” when on the House floor.

Mace told the Washington Examiner in a statement she was “not going to be lectured by those who support abortion up to the moment of birth.” She also stated that people in the United States know that Democrats have “taken an extreme position on this issue.”
