Nancy Pelosi wins reelection in California’s 11th district

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’s influence over the Democratic Party is not over yet, with the longtime congresswoman winning her 20th term in California’s 11th District.

The Associated Press called the race for Pelosi at 12:03 a.m. Eastern time with 42% of the vote counted. Pelosi received 81.5% to Republican Bruce Lou’s 18.5% at the time the race was called, with polls closing at 11 p.m. Eastern time.

Pelosi’s influence over the party has been well-documented, with the California Democrat reported to be the main driver of the pressure campaign against President Joe Biden to withdraw his 2024 reelection bid.

The former speaker reportedly expressed concern that Biden’s dismal performance on the June debate stage and in polls would ruin Democrats’ chances of retaking the House and maintaining the Senate majority.
