The tallest skyscraper in United States history is in the works to rise in Oklahoma City.

Rather than sprouting in New York City, Chicago, or Los Angeles, Oklahoma City is slated to be the new home of the Legends Tower at the Boardwalk at Bricktown.

Standing at 1,907 feet, the new skyscraper, the product of a partnership between real estate investment and development company Matteson Capital and architecture firm AO, will be nearly double the size of the city’s current tallest building, the 844-foot Devon Tower, AO said in a news release.

“The ambitious development features a collection of three towers, each rising to 345 feet, and a fourth striking supertall tower, referred to as Legends Tower, that ascends to 1,907 feet, creating an impressive silhouette against the Oklahoma City skyline,” the release said.

“The symbolic height honors the year that Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States.”

At least 5 million square feet will be taken up by the project, which will be used to house two hotels, 1,776 apartments, restaurants, and stores, the release noted.

“Oklahoma City is experiencing a significant period of growth and transformation, making it well-positioned to support large-scale projects like the one envisioned for Bricktown,” Scot Matteson, CEO of Matteson Capital, said.

Currently the nation’s tallest building is One World Trade Center in New York City, which stands at 1,776 feet.
