The Navy and Coast Guard celebrated the start of Pride Month with colorful posts honoring equality and the roles LGBT sailors and Coast Guardsmen play in the military.
“June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month! It’s a reflection on LGBTQ+ history, resilience, and progress,” the Coast Guard said. “This month, and every month, the USCG stands in solidarity for the inclusivity and acceptance of all our shipmates!”
“Charting a course for equality,” the Navy posted across social media. “Celebrate with the #USNavy this #PrideMonth!”
Neither post appeared to receive a warm reception on X.
“You think this is going to raise morale and get more recruits?!” one user replied to the Coast Guard.
“S***…WE DON’T EVEN HAVE A COAST GUARD ANYMORE….” another posted.
Accounts appearing to belong to veterans were quick to chastise the Navy’s post.
“As a Navy veteran, this is disturbing and disgusting,” one user posted.
“THIS Navy Vet is not celebrating Pride month,” another shared. “Don’t care who you sleep with & it should not hold you back from doing your job as a sailor; BUT should not be officially ‘celebrated’ either. Especially for a whole damn month. How about celebrating injured/dead sailors for a month?”
Along with the accounts for the Navy and Coast Guard, the Naval Special Warfare Command’s Facebook page limited comments on a post celebrating equality and pride in the Naval Special Warfare Command community.
Naval Special Warfare Command is home to the Navy SEALs and Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen.
“NSW DIGNITY SERVICE RESPECT EQUALITY PRIDE” was written across a rainbow flag dawning the seal of the Naval Special Warfare Command.
