Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is reportedly investigating a slate of alleged fake electors that promised to support former President Donald Trump in 2020, according to a news report published Wednesday.

The Democratic attorney general is reportedly looking at six people who signed fake certificates in December 2020, presenting themselves as alternate electors. The six include state GOP Chairman Michael McDonald, according to Politico. President Joe Biden won the state in 2020.

Investigators have been questioning those involved in Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the election in recent weeks, three sources told Politico. Joe Gloria, who was Clark County’s registrar at the time, said a state investigator asked him questions about the scheme earlier this month. Ford and his office have declined to comment for the story.

One of the state’s false electors, Jim DeGraffenreid, was in touch with attorney Kenneth Chesebro in the days before signing the fake certificates, according to a House Jan. 6 select committee report. Chesebro is a lawyer who had been working with the Trump campaign, and he is considered an important part of the fake elector scheme. Chesebro pleaded guilty to a single felony charge in Georgia related to the state’s massive racketeering case last month.

“URGENT—Trump-Pence campaign asked me to contact you to coordinate Dec. 14 voting by Nevada electors,” the subject line of an email that DeGraffenreid sent Chesebro read.

The other Nevada Republicans who claimed to be electors for Trump were Jesse Law, the head of the Clark County Republican Party; Durward James Hindle III; Eileen Rice; and Shawn Meehan.

Ford has not publicly commented on an investigation into the false electors, but he indicated in May that criminal charges against the electors were not likely. He has also testified in favor of a ban that would outlaw fake electors, but the bill to ban fake electors was vetoed by Gov. Joe Lombardo (R-NV).

Outside of Nevada, Trump is alleged to have used fake electors in six other states, including Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona. Alleged fake electors in Georgia and Michigan are already facing criminal charges, and Arizona is conducting its investigation. The other three states are New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
