Nevada GOP chairman among six charged in 2020 fake electors plot

Six Nevada Republicans, including the Nevada Republican Party chairman, were indicted on charges of falsely giving the state’s electors to former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

Nevada’s Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford announced the indictments on Wednesday. Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald, national committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid, Clark County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Law, Nevada Republican Party Vice Chairman Jim Hindle III, Shawn Meehan, and Eileen Rice were all named in the indictment, the Nevada Independent reported. Law had announced a run for the state Assembly the same day.

“When the efforts to undermine faith in our democracy began after the 2020 election, I made it clear that I would do everything in my power to defend the institutions of our nation and our state,” Ford said in a statement.

“We cannot allow attacks on democracy to go unchallenged. Today’s indictments are the product of a long and thorough investigation, and as we pursue this prosecution, I am confident that our judicial system will see justice done.”

All six defendants are being charged with offering a false instrument for filing and uttering a forged instrument for their actions around the 2020 election. The charges carry a minimum of one year in prison and a maximum of four to five years.

Georgia and Michigan saw similar efforts by “fake electors” during the 2020 election, and the Michigan Republicans have been indicted as well.
