Republican businessman Jeff Gunter retorted against members of former President Donald Trump‘s orbit after being snubbed in the Nevada Senate primary in favor of Army veteran Sam Brown.
Brown, a Purple Heart awardee, has the backing of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. NRSC Chairman Steve Adams and other party officials reportedly pressured Trump to endorse Brown over the seemingly less-electable Gunter. The former president finally agreed Sunday, endorsing Brown in a Truth Social post.
Gunter’s fury began soon after the endorsement, with Trump’s former ambassador to Iceland alleging foul play by Trump’s advisers. His direct show of opposition against Trump’s team is almost unheard of for Trump-aligned Republicans.
In an X post after the endorsement, Gunter revealed the alleged “inside baseball” that led to Brown’s endorsement. He claimed Trump refrained from endorsing Brown at his Las Vegas rally although he was supposed to but relented after a “big check comes in from the swamp.”
“Sadly, the suspicions many of us have had about ‘endorsements’ are being confirmed,” Gunter concluded.
While most of his focus was against Trump’s advisers, Gunter also threw some light jabs at Trump himself.
“We love Trump, but he is human and gets it wrong sometimes,” a post reposted by Gunter said. “Gunter for Nevada!”
Trump’s campaign was similarly furious with Gunter’s reaction.
“He’s mad because he didn’t earn the endorsement of President Trump. I understand that, but that doesn’t give him the right … to cast aspersions or to make up bulls*** attacking President Trump and his campaign,” Chris LaCivita, senior adviser on the Trump campaign, told Politico.
“[Gunter] should be very mindful about poking the bear one too many times because I will promise you, you’ll get your a** bit,” he added.
NRSC spokesman Mike Berg gave a similarly dismissive statement of Gunter to Politico.
“Numerous reputable vendors met with Jeff Gunter and decided he was not a serious candidate, with no path to victory,” he said. “His insane rant proves their judgment was correct.”

“Gunter’s insane rant made him sound like Adam Schiff on a witch hunt, which makes sense because Gunter is also a California Democrat,” Berg added.
Gunter appeared to insinuate that Trump was going to endorse him throughout his campaign, posting a picture in March of him meeting with Trump alongside a caption reading, “President Trump knows exactly who the America First candidate is in this race.”
