New DeSantis super PAC ad says ‘only one candidate’ can win following GOP losses

EXCLUSIVE — Never Back Down, the super PAC backing Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) 2024 presidential bid, is releasing an ad after Republicans saw significant losses across the country in Tuesday’s off-year statewide elections.
In a new ad titled “There’s Only One,” Never Back Down touts DeSantis as the only Republican presidential candidate who can win, reminding viewers that Florida was once a swing state but is now considered solidly red. The ad showcases DeSantis’s record as governor of Florida, noting how he reduced the state’s debt and removed prosecutors who were backed by organizations that received money from megadonor George Soros, among other accomplishments.

It also hints at the 2022 midterm elections, during which DeSantis won reelection to governor and pulled Florida’s Republican candidates to victory alongside him, including the historically blue-voting Miami-Dade County.
“Only one candidate turned a swing state bright red, proving he can fight the big fight and win,” the PAC said in the ad.
Never Back Down is looking to telegraph to voters that Tuesday’s Republican losses show the party needs a candidate who has a record of winning. “There is only one candidate for us, and it’s Ron DeSantis,” the ad continued.
The 30-second spot will run in Iowa and New Hampshire ahead of their all-important first-in-the-nation Republican caucuses and primary. It will also run nationally on Fox News, Newsmax, and CNN. The video is a part of the PAC’s existing $25 million fall ad buy.
The losses in Virginia and New Jersey, along with the failure of Trump-endorsed Republican Daniel Cameron to defeat the incumbent Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY), have drawn comparisons to the 2022 midterm elections, during which Republicans underperformed.

As the new ad airs in pivotal early state Iowa, DeSantis’s campaign is zeroing in on the Hawkeye State. It recently moved one-third of its campaign staff to the state, establishing a de facto second headquarters.
In what could present a chance for DeSantis to make Iowa competitive, the Florida governor received the endorsement of Gov. Kim Reynolds (R-IA) on Monday. She is expected not only to provide DeSantis’s team with organizational resources but also to appear alongside him on the trail.
