A civilian aircraft carrying approximately 60 passengers collided with a military helicopter near Washington D.C. Reagan National Airport (DCA).

As Patty McMurray reported moments ago — There was a massive crash this evening in Washington DC after a helicopter collided with a passenger jet leaving Reagan International Airport in Washington DC.

Numerous casualties are being reported.

Conservative Charles A Downs lives near the Reagan National Airport and reported hearing a massive “boom” only minutes ago. According to Downs, all flights at the airport have been canceled.

All flights were cancelled following the devastating crash.

A video from the Kennedy Center webcam captured the explosion in the air.

The video shows the helicopter tracking across the sky heading in the direction of the passenger jet.

The helicopter flies right into the jet before the explosion.

The lights from the helicopter is seen before it collided with incoming flight at Reagan International Airport in Washington DC.

It makes you wonder if this was on purpose?


UPDATE (9:00 PM CST)

Here is the latest:

• It was an American Airlines flight Number 5342 from Wichita, Kansas inbound to Reagan International Airport.

• A police helicopter crashed into the incoming AA flight.

• The helicopter was a Blackhawk helicopter

• According to the Metropolitan Police Department, no casualties have been confirmed at this time.


UPDATE (9:34 PM CST)

Sen. Ted Cruz, who chairs the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, confirmed that there were fatalities in the collision.

“I am closely monitoring the situation at DCA, and I will receive a briefing from the FAA tomorrow. While we don’t yet know how many on board were lost, we know there are fatalities. Please join Heidi and me in praying for all involved as the search and rescue is underway,” Ted Cruz wrote.

Vice President J.D. Vance also released a statement:

“Please say a prayer for everyone involved in the mid-air collision near Reagan airport this evening. We’re monitoring the situation, but for now let’s hope for the best.”


UPDATE (9:42 PM CST)

The audio transcript from air traffic control was released.

The communication highlights the critical moments of coordination between air traffic controllers and the aircraft involved.

Transcript Excerpt:

  • Traffic Control:  “PAT25 do you have the CRJ in sight?”
  • “Did the tower see that?” another pilot is heard asking just seconds after the apparent collision.


UPDATE (9:52 PM CST)

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump is closely monitoring the rescue operations following the collision between a military Black Hawk helicopter and a regional jet over the Potomac.
