New Jersey using police to funnel arriving immigrants to NYC: Report

State officials in New Jersey are adapting the best they can to the constant flood of immigrants descending on the state by purportedly using police officers to place them on Manhattan-bound transportation the moment they arrive on buses.

The push to stymie the number of immigrants in the Garden State arrives as New York Mayor Eric Adams continues to plead with Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) to take in more alleged asylum-seekers, according to a report.

Buses guided by “chaperones” arriving in New Jersey are met by NJ Transit officers, who reportedly funnel thousands of immigrants across the Hudson River.

With this systematic funneling in place, few immigrants have decided to stay in New Jersey, according to the report.

Since Saturday, 953 of the 1,017 asylum-seekers who have arrived in New Jersey have moved on to Manhattan.

Adams has not taken well to Murphy’s new policies and has demanded stringent notice and drop-off spots for new buses in New York City, but the New Jersey governor does not appear poised to change his mind.

“NYC is where there is federal support and resources available,” Murphy said. “This is a manageable situation, and I expect it will continue to be so.”
