New SIGHT film makes case for honoring parents’ role in children’s lives: ‘More to life than what we see’ – Washington Examiner

SIGHT, the latest film from Angel Studios, tells the true story of an eye surgeon who draws on resilience grounded in parental support throughout his youth to help restore the sight of an orphan.

The film SIGHT is based on the life of Dr. Ming Wang, a poor Chinese prodigy who flees Communist China and becomes an eye surgeon in the United States. In the process, he finds himself drawing on the strength and dedication of his parents to reconcile his own traumatic past.

Actor Terry Chen, of Almost Famous and House of Cards, plays the role of Wang in his adult life.

“To see the relationship that Dr. Wang and his parents had and how it shaped him and set him on a certain path is incredibly inspiring. All we want to impart to our children is safety and love,” Chen told the Washington Examiner. “That’s incredible and an important part of Dr. Wang’s story.”

Wang also credited his patients for helping him to heal from his past.

“[They] brought me out of darkness and taught me to see again. All of us are a little broken, but by sharing stories with each other, we can come to heal together,” Wang said. “Because there is more to life than what we see.”

The film will be released in theaters nationwide on May 24.
