It’s a wonder this hasn’t happened before.

In a move sure to make Washington tourists happy, a mini White House is opening soon next to the White House complex that will give visitors a realistic view inside the historic home and office.

Sanctioned by first lady Jill Biden and managed by the White House Historical Association, the 33,000-square-foot exhibition will include an Oval Office and Rose Garden, two of the most photographed areas of the facility. Both are off-limits to most tourists who snag a ticket to see the real White House.

“At its core, this project is about education — teaching our students about our country’s origins, bringing to life the countless people who shaped it and who made the White House into the beating heart of our democracy,” Biden said in announcing the project at the association’s recent gala.

The new exhibit is going into an office building across 17th Street from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and will open in late 2024.

It will join the National Park Service’s White House Visitor Center on the other side of the presidential complex as an anchor for the millions of visitors in Washington every year.
