New York City experienced mass flooding Friday as extremely heavy rain coated almost the entirety of New England.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency Friday as torrential rains left NYC and the surrounding states looking like something out of an apocalypse movie, ABC News reported. Along with the Big Apple, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Jersey were also inundated, and bracing for even more horrific weather throughout the weekend.
Videos circulating online show the absolute insanity of our lack of relationship with the natural world. Concrete-coated cities like NYC are often forced to a standstill when the rain gets too heavy, largely due to the lack of infrastructural management and urban planning for waterways.

Rainfall rate hit between 1 to 2 inches per hour as of Friday morning, bringing flash flood warnings to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, ABC continued. NYC alone could see up to 5 inches of rain, while parts of NJ and the Hudson Valley could see more than 6 inches. (RELATED: As If Times Weren’t Scary Enough, Now Sinkholes Are Swallowing Vans In NYC)
Travel advisories have also been put in place, and all flights are on hold at LaGuardia Airport. Some subways are continuing to run, but on “extremely limited” service. It is hoped the rain will let up by Friday night.
