NFL rookie Ricky Pearsall shot in attempted robbery – Washington Examiner

San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall was shot in Union Square in San Francisco on Saturday during an attempted robbery.

Pearsall suffered a bullet wound in his chest and is in “serious but stable condition,” according to a statement from the San Francisco 49ers posted on X. The suspect has been arrested, according to NBC Bay Area.

The suspect attempted to rob Pearsall, leading to a physical altercation. The suspect was also shot with their own gun, and both were taken to a nearby hospital.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed confirmed the shooting on X, posting, “This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time.”

Pearsall, a wide receiver, was picked 31st in the 2024 NFL Draft by the 49ers and was slated to make his NFL debut on Sept. 9 against the New York Jets. However, his status for that game was already unclear due to a shoulder injury he suffered, which caused him to miss the 49ers’ preseason games. He returned to practice this week.

Teammate and fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel posted an update on Pearsall’s condition on X, saying, “He’s good. Thank god!!!!”

Union Square is the shopping, hotel, and theater district in San Francisco, California.
