Nikki Haley slams media for ‘obsession with Trump’

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley issued a rant on how “exhausting” the media is in its coverage of Donald Trump.
Haley criticized Jon Karl of ABC’s This Week for his various questions about her opponent during an interview that aired Sunday. In it, Karl asked Haley about Trump’s calls for “retribution” and his “absolute immunity” defense in his election interference case. Haley largely dodged the questions and claimed she would not be keeping up with all 91 charges against Trump.

“You guys are exhausting. You’re exhausting in your obsession with him,” Haley told Karl in reference to Trump. “The thing is, the normal people aren’t obsessed with Trump like you guys are. The normal people care about the fact that they can’t afford things. They feel like their freedoms are taken away. They think government is too big.”
“I know y’all want to talk about every single word he says and every tweet he does. That’s why we need a new generational leader because people don’t want to hear about every word a person says or every tweet,” Haley went on. “They want to know how you fought for them that day, and they want to know how their life is going to be different. And life would be a whole lot different if the media would stop this obsession with Trump.”
Karl defended his questions by reminding Haley that Trump is ahead in the polls nationwide. Since Haley served in Trump’s administration, she has faced criticism from fellow 2024 opponent Gov. Ron DeSantis, along with a New Hampshire voter during a town hall this week, for not attacking Trump more.

Trump appeared at the University of South Carolina football game against Clemson last month in what appeared to be a slight to Haley, who, according to polling, is in a solid second place in the early primary states of New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Haley received the endorsement of former New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, where the first primary in the nation is taking place on Jan. 23. Her home state of South Carolina will host its primary shortly after.
