Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley shot back following a Thursday report that the Republican National Committee is planning to declare former President Donald Trump the presumptive nominee despite only two states voting for a candidate.
In a draft resolution, the RNC would declare Trump “our presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States,” according to the Dispatch.
In a statement, Haley spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas said, “Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders.”
“If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful, she can organize a debate in South Carolina, unless she’s also worried that Trump can’t handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley,” she added.
The RNC did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.
Chairman of the Republican Party in the Virgin Islands Gordon Ackley also reacted to the report, writing on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, “The Virgin Islands will go ahead with the caucus on February 8.”
“It is unfortunate other Republicans want to deny their voters the opportunity to be heard and cast a vote. Regardless of who you support, there is a process that must be followed,” he said.
The RNC proposed resolution cited Trump’s double-digit Iowa and New Hampshire wins earlier this month, adding that the former president has “an insurmountable lead in all states
voting from now through Super Tuesday, including a 30 point lead in South Carolina.”
It further claimed “a mathematical path forward” doesn’t exist for anyone but Trump and
money would be better spent on the general election against President Joe Biden.
Following the New Hampshire primary Tuesday, McDaniel drew criticism after calling on Haley to suspend her campaign and for the party to unite behind Trump.

One former RNC staffer took to X, writing, “Funny, I thought the RNC wasn’t supposed to get involved in primaries?”
“Rather than try to call the race now, why don’t they focus their efforts on urging Trump to debate Nikki and also sign the RNC nominee loyalty pledge? Neither of which he has done,” continued Brittany Martinez.
