One but not done: Top Republican promises more impeachments are on the way – Washington Examiner

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) floated reusing the impeachment process against a replacement for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Green was one of the biggest voices pushing the impeachment of Mayorkas, arguing that the process was legitimate in light of alleged constitutional violations by the Department of Homeland Security secretary. When asked by Politico if he is concerned about who could replace Mayorkas, Green responded by threatening the same process.

“Of course I am, but if that person doesn’t do his job well, we will impeach his a**, too,” he said.

HOMELAND Chair Mark Green says when I asked if he’s concerned at all about who will replace Mayorkas as head of DHS.

It’s unlikely that Green will impeach a Mayorkas replacement since the Democratic-controlled Senate will likely not convict Mayorkas in an impeachment trial.

Though the House vote in favor of impeaching Mayorkas occurred along partisan lines, a pattern likely to replicate itself in the Senate, Green argued that the grievances against the secretary transcended party lines.

“This transcends mere policy disagreements,” he wrote in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal. “The people’s representatives are seeking to address a cabinet official’s unlawful actions, which have clearly harmed the country. The homeland security secretary has a statutory duty under the Immigration and Nationality Act to ‘control and guard’ America’s borders, and numerous other provisions of the act mandate how he is to do so.”
