Police found a missing woman deceased in the basement of a Willimantic, Connecticut, halfway house, local reports say.
The unnamed woman, identified as a visiting nurse, was allegedly scheduled to visit the home on Chapman Street, but her family reported her missing Saturday after her eight-minute appointment went longer than the expected time, according to WFSB.

Police went to the halfway house to see if they could find the woman, but the nurse’s car was not there, the outlet reported. Officers located the vehicle at a nearby business but the woman was nowhere to be found. Using a K9 unit, officers were able to track the car back to the halfway house where the woman was purported to be. Police searched the home and found the woman’s body, according to WFSB.
“This is a deeply troubling case on many levels, and one of the worst cases I have seen in my 27 years in law enforcement,” Willimantic police Chief Paul Hussey said, according to the outlet. “Our condolences go out to the family of the victim.”
Police arrested a man, identified as Michael Reese, as he fled the area and charged him with unrelated offenses, CT Insider reported. Reese is a registered sex offender, according to the outlet, but police have yet to name him as a homicide suspect in the case regarding the deceased nurse. Court documents show Reese was one of the patients the woman was scheduled to visit, per CT Insider.
Reese is being held at the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center with a bond of just over $1 million, according to NBC Connecticut. Charges relating to the deceased woman are pending due to an ongoing investigation.
The Daily Caller reached out to the Willimantic Police Department as well as the Connecticut State Police to see if Reese has been named as a homicide suspect, but was unable to make contact by the time of publication.
