Former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney wrote in her new book that one House Republican had a colorful nickname for former President Donald Trump.
Cheney said Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) called Trump “Orange Jesus” while he was lined up to sign a sheet objecting to the electoral votes for the 2020 election, according to an excerpt from her book Oath and Honor given to CNN.

“Among them was Republican Congressman Mark Green of Tennessee,” Cheney wrote. “As he moved down the line, signing his name to the pieces of paper, Green said sheepishly to no one in particular, ‘The things we do for the Orange Jesus.’”
The former congresswoman and Trump critic also blasted former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for saying one thing about the 2020 election behind closed doors while making different claims publicly. She claimed that McCarthy, who was House minority leader at the time, had talked to Trump days after the election, and he had acknowledged he lost the race.
“He knows it’s over,” McCarthy said, according to Cheney’s book. “He needs to go through all the stages of grief.”
She said he went on Fox News later that day and claimed Trump had won the election.

Other claims from the former congresswoman in her book include the revelation that McCarthy told her he was visiting Trump at Mar-a-Lago in January 2021 because the former president was “depressed” and “not eating.”
Cheney was one of the most vocal Republican opponents of Trump following the Capitol riot, serving on the House Jan. 6 select committee after being selected by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Cheney lost her seat in 2022 after being defeated by GOP challenger Harriet Hageman by nearly 40 points in the Republican primary.
