One of the United States’s most popular shopping destinations is renovating over 1,400 of its locations, with over 100 of these areas starting renovation this weekend.
Walmart’s $9 billion investment plan will modernize several of its locations and will consist of new paint, flooring, lighting, and signage meant to improve costumers’ navigation of its stores. The renovations will start this Friday for 117 locations, just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

“These construction investments allow us to create more local jobs and make it easier for our associates to get customers what they want, when they want it,” said John Furner, CEO of Walmart U.S.
The shopping giant has over 4,717 locations in the United States, and Walmart’s plan to renovate over 1,400 makes up almost 30% of its U.S. locations getting renovated. The renovation plan will take two years to complete.
Beyond the modernization, Walmart also plans to introduce several other additions to its locations, including a built-in dollar shop and larger pharmacy areas. Walmart is also planning to add new check-out and food options in its stores.

Walmart’s plans to renovate many of its stores come after it announced earlier this year that it will close all of its locations on Thanksgiving Day, with Furner stating he wants Walmart employees to spend the holiday “with family and loved ones.” Walmart began this tradition four years ago in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other stores remaining closed for Thanksgiving include Target, Costco, and Best Buy.
