The Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is responding to a report of a “suspicious item” near George Washington University (GWU), the MPD told the Daily Caller.

An MPD spokeswoman stated to the Caller that the package was located at the corner of 23rd Street and I Street Northwest. The intersection is now shut down “while we work to resolve the incident.” The intersection near the GWU Hospital and WMATA Metro stop. Police are asking people to avoid the area. This comes just hours after there was a hazmat incident at the Pentagon, just a few miles from GWU. Arlington County Fire and EMS has since determined that “no hazard exists” at the Pentagon. “ACFD units, including our Hazardous Materials Team, are currently operating at the Pentagon in support of PFPA’s Hazmat Team during a hazardous materials incident,” Arlington County posted to X during the incident.
