President Donald Trump has just presented his «Great Healthcare Plan,» a proposal aimed at transforming the healthcare system by replacing federal subsidies to insurance companies with direct payments to citizens, allowing them to purchase their own medical coverage and drastically reduce costs.
The announcement comes amid the expiration of enhanced subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare), which has led to average premium increases of more than 100% for millions of enrollees in 2026.

Trump emphasized that «Obamacare was designed to enrich insurance companies,» with subsidies causing their stocks to rise more than 1,700% while premiums increased year after year.
His plan stops these «massive payments to insurers» and redirects funds to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), where individuals directly negotiate prices and choose customized plans. According to the White House, this empowers the people and eliminates intermediaries that inflate costs.
Key measures include: funding a cost-sharing reduction program to lower premiums by 10-15% in the most common Obamacare plans; eliminating «kickbacks» to brokers and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) that drive up system costs; and requiring insurers and hospitals accepting Medicare or Medicaid to prominently publish all prices, promoting real transparency and competition.
The plan also promises massive discounts on prescription drugs through «most favored nation» policies, reducing prices by up to 80-90% in some cases, and requires insurers to disclose claim denials, wait times, and breakdowns of profits versus payments for care.
Trump called on Congress to approve it «without delay,» although experts note it lacks precise details on implementation and exact amounts.
This explicitly rejects extending the expired ACA subsidies, which benefited corporations at the expense of workers. With more than 20 million facing doubled premiums (from $888 in 2025 to $1,904 in 2026 according to KFF), the proposal prioritizes direct relief for families over industry bailouts.
Trump launched his health plan to deliver money directly to the people and reduce medication costs, detailing the elimination of subsidies and forced transparency.
This initiative represents a blow to Democratic state interventionism and the «cartel» of insurers, prioritizing individual freedom and efficiency.
