MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump wants to put her network on trial “so he can execute us.”
Maddow said Trump has been “portraying a future” for the United States “in which we don’t have another election” should he become president again, as the former president has been insisting that voting polls and the democratic process are rigged against him. During Maddow’s appearance on The View, one of the hosts claimed Trump would cancel the news as president, to which Maddow added that Trump wants to pursue legal action against MSNBC.

“He wants to put MSNBC on trial for treason so he can execute us,” Maddow said. “I mean, the Republican Party is going to elevate somebody like that to represent their party in a general election.”
Maddow then said Trump has a 50% chance of becoming president again should he win the nomination for the Republican Party’s primary race. The MSNBC host claimed that if Trump is the nominee, the Republican Party would have to reckon with its decision “till the end of time in terms of what they did to this country.”
Trump’s pursuit of the presidency in 2024 could set up a rematch between him and President Joe Biden, as Biden is expected to be the nominee for the Democratic Party. A recent poll found that Biden beat Trump by 4 points, with Biden scoring 52% against Trump’s 48%.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who used to be a Democratic candidate in the 2024 election, announced earlier this month he would run as an independent. A recent poll suggested a majority of voters believe both Republicans and Democrats “do such a poor job that a third major party is needed,” including 58% of Republicans, 46% of Democrats, and 75% of independents.
