Rashida Tlaib to face censure motion from Marjorie Taylor Greene for ‘antisemitic activity’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) will introduce a resolution on Tuesday to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for “antisemitic activity” and sympathizing with a terrorist organization.

“The [Democratic] Party has done nothing to hold her accountable. They’ve done nothing to rein her in, and no one else here has done it. And so I thought it was right to list examples of — this isn’t just new. This isn’t a one-off thing. This is exactly who she is,” she told Fox News.

The resolution, obtained by the Washington Examiner, states its purpose as to censure Tlaib “for antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex,” referring to a mass protest inside the U.S. Capitol last week that saw hundreds of demonstrators arrested. Tlaib had spoken to a crowd during a rally led by the organizers of the protest.

Greene told Fox News, “I think we will have every single Republican vote with us for this central resolution.”

But she doesn’t think the resolution’s support will be limited to Republicans. “It would be shocking to me if they didn’t vote for it,” she said.

In the censure resolution, Greene refers to several examples. One such example is a 2019 comment made by Tlaib, claiming the Holocaust gave her a “calming feeling.”

“There’s always kind of a calming feeling, I tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land, and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” she said on a podcast episode at the time. “And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, and it was forced on them.”

Greene also pointed to Tlaib’s recently reiterated claims that Israel has an “apartheid government.”

The conservative firebrand further cited Tlaib’s statement following Hamas’s initial attack on Israel earlier this month, in which she said, “The path to the future must include lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.”

Greene also called for an investigation into the protest held inside the Capitol last week, according to Fox News. “It should [have] a House Ethics investigation. [The House Administration Committee] should be investigating it. I think the Department of Justice, FBI should be investigating, even possibly the CIA,” she said.
