REPORT: 1 Dead, 1 Injured In Alleged Active Shooting At New Mexico Air Force Base

One person is dead and another is injured following an alleged shooting that occurred Tuesday in New Mexico at Holloman Air Force Base, according to officials.

Holloman Air Force Base went on lockdown around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday following reports of an active shooter, the base’s 49th Wing Public Affairs Office said, according to the El Paso Times. The lockdown was lifted “shortly thereafter when security forces personnel confirmed that the scene was safe,” the 49th Wing Public Affairs Office said in a statement shared with the outlet.

In another statement published by the Associated Press (AP) Tuesday evening, security base officials confirmed “emergency personnel are responding to the situation and there is no threat at this time.”

Additionally, in a post shared on its Facebook page, Holloman Air Force Base said the base’s “shopette will be closed until further notice.”

The names of the individuals who were shot have not yet been released, according to the AP. The person who was injured received medical treatment, but the extent of their injuries has not been released, the El Paso Times reported. Holloman Air Force Base, which houses the 49th Wing, “supports national security objectives by deploying worldwide to support peacetime and wartime contingencies” and trains F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots and MQ-9 Reaper pilots and sensor operators, according to its website. The base also provides support to 21,000 military and civilian personnel.

Details regarding the shooting have not been disclosed amid an investigation, according to the El Paso Times. An arrest has not been made, KTSM reported Tuesday evening.
