A burglar allegedly sexually assaulted a sleeping elderly woman in her New York home before taking off with her pajama pants, police said Thursday, according to PIX 11.
Forty-three-year-old Servin Maradiaga was charged with rape, burglary and aggravated sexual abuse in relation to the Aug. 30 incident, PIX 11 reported. Maradiaga allegedly entered the 71-year-old woman’s Brooklyn residence through a kitchen window around 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 30, police said. Maradiaga then allegedly choked the victim, touched her private area, and took off with her pajama pants, according to police, the outlet reported.

The suspect did not take any other items, and the woman received treatment at the hospital. According to the New York Post, Maradiaga was also charged with criminal obstruction of breathing in connection with the incident. Police caught the suspect Thursday around 9 a.m. at the Ibis Styles New York LaGuardia Airport Hotel, the New York Post reported.
The Aug. 30 home invasion is not Maradiaga’s first alleged offense. According to police, Maradiaga allegedly groped a 41-year-old female acquaintance’s buttocks inside a club in Cypress Hills in Nov. 2024, the outlet reported. Maradiaga was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse in relation to the Nov. 2024 incident, police said. He is pending arraignment for both cases, as of publication. Maradiaga lives in East Elmhurst in Queens, which is about eight miles from the woman’s residence, the New York Daily News reported, citing police. It is not clear what Maradiaga was doing in Brooklyn at the time of the incident. Police also do not believe Maradiaga and the victim knew each other before the alleged burglary and sexual assault, according to the outlet.
Police were able to catch Maradiaga after releasing surveillance footage, which led to them receiving a tip about his whereabouts, AMNY reported.
