REPORT: Feds Arrest Pro-Palestine Protestor Who Allegedly Set Fire To NYPD Vehicles

A pro-Palestine protestor who allegedly set fire to 11 New York Police Department (NYPD) vehicles was arrested by federal agents Monday, law enforcement told the New York Post.

Jakhi Lodgson-McCray turned himself in to authorities Monday and is expected to appear before a federal judge after he allegedly set fire to the NYPD vehicles in a Brooklyn parking lot back in June, the New York Post reported. Law enforcement reportedly said the alleged incident caused at least $800,000 in damage.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny previously told the outlet that law enforcement had Lodgson-McCray on video before he allegedly torched the vehicles.

“We have him on video for about 40 minutes prior to the incident. He is by himself, and, like I said, a substantial video canvass after the fact, where we track him all the way back to Manhattan,” Kenny said. In addition, Kenny said 21-year-old Lodgson-McCray was allegedly wanted for criminal mischief in relation to a protest that occurred at Columbia University in September 2024, and that based on his social media accounts, the suspect appears to be very active in the Free Palestine movement.

NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch issued a statement on her verified X account, confirming Lodgson-McCray had been taken into custody.

“Jakhi Lodgson-McCray, the individual responsible for setting fire to 11 NYPD vehicles on June 12, was taken into custody this morning,” she stated.

“The NYPD, @ATFNewYork, and @FDNY identified Mr. Lodgson-McCray in mid-June through forensics and video evidence, and our @USMarshalsHQ Regional Fugitive Task Force was hot on his trail when he turned himself in to face federal arson charges, accompanied by his lawyer and his mother,” she said in part.

In June 2025, the New York Post reported multiple vehicles had been set on fire around 1:30 a.m. on June 12 at a parking lot in Bushwick at the intersection of Central and DeKalb avenues, which is a block away from the 83rd Precinct.

Law enforcement also found three undetonated incendiary devices placed on cars in the same lot. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, according to the New York Post.

Lodgson-McCray was arrested “several times before at protests in the city,” CBS News indicated.
