A guest at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort was found dead Tuesday in what authorities described as an apparent suicide, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the individual “was NOT struck by the monorail,” disputing early social media rumors. The incident occurred near the resort, just outside the Magic Kingdom entrance. Footage circulating on social media appeared to show officials erecting a white tent on a balcony at the Contemporary Resort, though the images could not be independently verified. Online reports initially claimed the victim was found on the monorail track, but authorities have disputed that account.

A Disney spokesperson declined to comment on specific details, telling the outlet “We don’t release additional information in cases of suicide.”

This is not the first suicide reported at the resort. In 2016, a guest was believed to have jumped from one of the building’s upper ledges.
The Contemporary Resort’s A-frame structure houses a monorail track that runs through the lower level, with gift shops and restaurants — including Chef Mickey’s and the Contempo Café — located above.
Authorities have not released the victim’s name, age or gender.
