A New Mexico man was charged with double murder following a fatal Friday shooting in which he allegedly claimed a cockroach ordered him to kill, according to reports.
Alexis Hernandez, 25, was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center in connection with the Friday incident that occurred inside a southwest Albuquerque home, according to NBC News. Deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire at the southwest Albuquerque home just before 10:30 p.m. Friday.
According to the arrest warrant cited by NBC News, Hernandez allegedly met the deputies at the front door with a “firearm on his waistband and a Marine Corps Sabre on his hip.” Hernandez also allegedly told the deputies he was in the Marines and “had to do what he had to do” before indicating there were two dead bodies in the house. Both alleged victims were male, with one appearing to have been stabbed. In addition, two children were found unharmed and were removed from the residence, NBC News reported.

During an interview with deputies, Hernandez allegedly admitted he knew both men, and one was the property owner, the outlet reported, citing the warrant. He allegedly said he believed the property owner had been stalking him, that he’d purportedly been “hearing creepy voices coming from the vents,” and that he’d received an “an encrypted message in a cockroach” that he “needed to kill” the property owner, who did not like cockroaches, according to the same arrest warrant. The suspect also claimed he’d purchased a Glock handgun for “protection.”
Hernandez allegedly told deputies he’d shot both men, then reloaded his gun before shooting them again. He said the two children had purportedly witnessed the shooting, but he didn’t intend to harm them, the same warrant states. KOB 4 identified the property owner as Hector Rios and the second victim only as “Yorces.” The case is being investigated by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, and Hernandez is due to appear in court this week, according to the outlet.
