REPORT: Student At Middle School Allegedly Gets Stabbed, Police Arrest A Mom

A mother was arrested for allegedly giving her child a knife used to stab another student during a Wednesday incident at a Detroit elementary-middle school, according to FOX 2.

Detroit police arrested the mother and her 14-year-old daughter after the teenager allegedly used the knife to stab a fellow student in the neck and shoulder area at Gompers Elementary-Middle School, FOX 2 reported. The alleged incident occurred following a disagreement between the two students, officials said. The victim is reported to be in stable condition, according to The Detroit News, who cited a statement from the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

While the knife was allegedly detected by a metal detector, a security guard failed to search the woman and has since been removed from the school, according to FOX 2. The security guard may also face termination following an investigation.

Classes were canceled Thursday to ensure safety protocols are in place. A meeting was also scheduled Thursday to address the incident. On Friday, CBS News reported the school would be closed until Monday. (RELATED: REPORT: Judge Sentences Contractor Who Raped 11-Year-Old Girl While Renovating Family’s Bathroom)

Ateshia Vincent, whose son is in first grade at the school, told WXYZ that parents were not notified of the incident until the end of the school day.

“When they found out something’s wrong, instead of them saying, ‘Okay, this happened, let me get this notice out to the parents,’ they wait until the end of the day to address it,” she told the outlet.

“It’s unacceptable because had I known that, I could’ve went and got my kid,” Vincent added.

Vincent also told the outlet she was “worried” for her son.

“Honestly, I’m a little upset, and I’m worried for my son because I don’t understand how a parent could give it to their child, and then they go off through the metal detector. First of all, parents aren’t even allowed in the school,” she explained.

The district said it was “unaware of any additional threats targeting students,” according to The Detroit News.

The Daily Caller contacted the Detroit Police Department, who deferred to the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

The Daily Caller also contacted the Detroit Public Schools Community District, but did not receive a comment in time for publication.
