Republican debate: Haley plugs ‘DeSantis Lies’ website during Iowa faceoff

DES MOINES, Iowa — If “lies” was on your debate bingo card, you were in luck during the first Republican primary debate of 2024 and the last before the GOP’s opening nominating contest in Iowa next week.

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley announced a new website, “DeSantisLies.com,” at the start of the debate in Des Moines and repeatedly referred to it during the first hour Wednesday night.

“Every time he lies, Drake University, don’t turn this into a drinking game because you will be over-served by the end of the night,” Haley said.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) encouraged the audience to click on his own website, RonDeSantis.com, to find a video of what he described as Haley’s own lies.

The campaigns previewed their debate strategy for the head-to-head matchup on CNN Wednesday morning with competing compilation videos of their opponent’s past comments.

“When DeSantis holds her accountable for caving to the media and the left, Haley will lie to Iowa voters and claim she ‘never said that,’” his campaign said. “As DeSantis said, ‘Nikki Haley wants you to believe her over your own lyin’ eyes.’”

In exchange, Haley countered that DeSantis was also “lying because he’s losing” and was running a failed campaign.

“He put all his money on Iowa – literally – and the only card he’s got left to play is to lie about Nikki Haley’s record,” Haley spokeswoman AnnMarie Graham-Barnes said. “Spoiler alert: It’s not working.”
